Philabundance Collection November 18th through December 17th
Local food banks need our help this time of year.
PHILABUNDANCE is a nonprofit organization that distributes nonperishable food items to agencies in Philadelphia and the surrounding counties. People in your community rely on PHILABUNDANCE to provide food for families with children. Donations of healthy food items, foods that most families typically buy to fee children and teens, will help these agencies the most.
FYI: In the past, our school, Merion Elementary, made the largest, single school donation to Philabundance. In 2016, Merion collected over 7,000 pounds of food for the needy, provided thousands of meals for families in our area.
Thanks to all Merion families for everything you do for our school and community.
Monetary donations: please make checks out to PHILABUNDANCE, and send to school in a marked envelope.

5th Grade Dues
Hello 5th Grade Parents/Guardians:
Thank you to everyone who has already paid their 5th graders dues!
We're planning the rest of the school year for the 5th graders. We would appreciate if you haven't paid your dues to pay them as soon as possible. This will help us budget for the events we have planned for them. The dues are $90.00 per student. Your child has already enjoyed a field trip to Diamond Ridge (costs $90.00 per student) and Class T-shirt (cost $15.00). They will receive a class yearbook (cost $25.00), and end of the year party on the last day of school. You can submit your check made payable to Merion HSA in a sealed envelope marked "HSA 5th Grade Dues".
You can also pay via PayPal by clicking here.
Box Tops Are Going Digital!
You've probably noticed some packaging changes to your favorite Box Top products. Going forward, instead of clipping from packages and checking expiration dates, all Box Tops will be earned digitally by scanning your receipt.
The Box Tops for Education team has built a new app featuring state-of- the-art technology that allows you to scan your store receipt, find participating products, and instantly add Box Tops to our school's earnings online. Simply download the app and scan your receipt to earn. (And trust me, it is really easy!)
If you still have traditional Box Tops clips at home, be sure to send them to school. We will still earn cash for all clipped Box Tops until they expire.
Better yet, you can "double dip" during the packaging transition by clipping the traditional Box Tops AND scanning your store receipt containing participating products. Box Top Buzz
Thanks for helping our school get what it needs!

Calling All Spanish Festival Volunteers!
Hola! Although it is only October, we are starting to think about the Spanish Festival. In the past the Spanish festival has been one of the highlights of the Spanish Program. Parent participation is imperative in preparing the ultimate fiesta for the Merion children. The event is scheduled for April 17th, 2020.

Sleep and School Start Times
The Lower Merion Board of School Directors is considering a proposal that would shift the start times of all schools in the District starting next year to better align with recommendations from medical organizations that adolescents should not start school prior to 8:30 a.m. You can find an infographic with the proposed new schedule here.
Under the proposal, elementary school would start at 7:45 a.m., high school at 8:25 a.m., and middle school at 9:05 a.m. Parents, guardians and community members are invited to attend one of the four community listening sessions (listed below) to ask questions and share feedback on the proposal. You can also share feedback by emailing email@example.com.
Community Listening Sessions scheduled to take place:
1. Sunday, December 8, 2019 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. in the Academy Building (adjacent to BCMS) - 510 Bryn Mawr Avenue in Bala Cynwyd
2. Monday, December 9, 2019 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. in the District Administration Offices Board Room - 301 E. Montgomery Avenue in Ardmore
