Merion Elementary celebrates Martin Luther King Jr Day in partnership with Cradles to Crayons
Please join us for the MLK Day of Service on Friday, January 17th, 1:30- 3:30pm at Harriton High School, 600 North Ithan Ave, Rosemont.
Looking for some volunteering to do with your kids that is both fun and meaningful after a half day of school in memory of Martin Luther King Jr? Come on over and volunteer with us! We'll be collecting and sorting gently used kids clothing items as well as NEW kids pajamas for Cradles to Crayons, a local child-centered charity.
We'll also be making birthday cards, wrapping paper and gift bags (for birthday gifts provided by Cradles to Crayons) so children in need can have joyful birthdays.
Even if you cannot join us for this event, please DROP OFF gently used kids clothing items and NEW kids pajamas for this wonderful organization in the bins located in the Merion Elementary School office. It's a great time of year to do some cleaning and kids in need can really use these items. Thanks to everyone in advance.
Merion HSA Meeting
Please join our next Merion HSA meeting in the school auditorium on 1/22 at 7 pm. Our guests will be representatives of the Lower Merion Interschool Council.
The Interschool Council is the umbrella organization for the District's ten Home & School Associations. The purpose of the council is to improve the educational experience for all our children in the School District. To that end, the ISC offers a wide complement of programming for parents/guardians, fosters a cooperative relationship and effective communication between the School District and community, coordinates and supports efforts of the HSAs through interschool exchange to promote best practices.
For more information, please contact the HSA at firstname.lastname@example.org.

The Committee for Special Education, ESY and Your Student: Planning, Advocacy & Rights, Jan 22 @7-8pm
For many families, the new year brings thoughts of summer and how their student will maintain skills that have been acquired through IEP goals. Planning for Extended School Year (ESY) raises several questions about what's required, how students qualify, and how you can best advocate for your student and their unique learning differences.
For our next meeting, the Committee for Special Education is delighted to welcome Michael Connolly, Supervising Partner of Special Education at the McAndrews Law Offices, and Maria Vetter, Advocate and Co-Founder of Raffaele & Associates, for an open discussion where you can hear from their experience and learn answers to these questions and more.
WHEN: Tuesday, January 21 from 7:00-8:00 pm
WHERE: LMSD Administration Building,Rooms 264A and 264B 301 E. Montgomery Ave., Ardmore*

CARE Committee Meeting, LMHS, Library, Jan. 29 @4pm
The District recognizes the value and necessity of engaging all community stakeholders in its efforts to provide a high quality education to its students. The Committee to Address Race in Education (CARE) was formed in 1997 in order to forge school-community partnerships and opportunities for stakeholders to work collaboratively to serve all students.
The CARE committee meets monthly from September through May each year to communicate about issues of race that have implications for education, advise the school district on issues of policy and practice, report about programs that benefit all racial/ethnic groups, and educate all stakeholders in an effort to increase understanding and bring all students to the highest possible levels of achievement.
