Book Fair Recap
Our Book Fair was a tremendous success! Thanks to our Merion community, our Book Fair sales were in excess of $22,000, which, for Merion, translates to approximately $12,100 in Scholastic Dollars or $5,500 in cash that will be available to be spent on educational/STEM materials, books and programs. Thanks to your generosity, combined, our teachers and library have already
had over 110 booksadded to their classrooms and/or shelves. We also looked outside Merion and contributed over $700 to libraries in underserved communities through WePac (West Philadelphia Alliance for Children), whose goal is to "bring books, reading, and libraries to low-income schoolchildren who have lost their library or who never had one." Further,
Scholastic matched our All for Books collection and, as a result, $2,307.30 will be invested in literacy-based charities. Best of all, and most importantly, we put over 2500 new books in the hands of Merion students. Due to their boundless enthusiasm, we sold out of over 31 titles on the first day of the Book Fair and were greeted every day by eager requests for their favorite authors or titles they previewed during the lead up to the Book Fair. Our thanks to the many volunteers who worked countless hours decorating and helping run our Fair. Reading matters and Merion proved it this week!

Treats for Troops
Let's help support our brave US Military! Our troops spend many months of the year away from their friends and families, without the comforts of home. We have a chance to show them our gratitude and support. Please contribute personal hygiene or simple food items to the Treats for Troops box in the office lobby until December 1. A complete list can be found on flyers sent home in your Thursday folder. Questions? Contact Ms. Simon - SimonD@lmsd.org
Sleep and School Start Times
The Lower Merion Board of School Directors is considering a proposal that would shift the start times of all schools in the District starting next year to better align with recommendations from medical organizations that adolescents should not start school prior to 8:30 a.m. You can find an infographic with the proposed new schedule here.
Under the proposal, elementary school would start at 7:45 a.m., high school at 8:25 a.m., and middle school at 9:05 a.m. Parents, guardians and community members are invited to attend one of the four community listening sessions (listed below) to ask questions and share feedback on the proposal. You can also share feedback by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Community Listening Sessions scheduled to take place:
1. Sunday, December 8, 2019 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. in the Academy Building (adjacent to BCMS) - 510 Bryn Mawr Avenue in Bala Cynwyd
